Baseball Fever

Eldy went off to a spring training baseball game today in Scottsdale, AZ. That was about an hour and fifteen minute drive from Casa Grande. The park is the brand new Arizona Diamondbacks/Colorado Rockies spring training stadium, called Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, a nod to the Pima and Maricopa Indians' cultural heritage, as it is built on Indian tribal lands. There are 12 practice fields at this location. Eldy said it was one of the finest stadiums he'd seen for a spring training facility....they even had a small fry diamond set up for younger kids to practice ball skills and playing. Unfortunately, the food and snacks are very expensive, (4.50 for a hot dog, 3.50 for a pop) as to be expected. There are also other entertainment venues in this area...the Talking Stick Resort and Casino, and the 36 hole championship Talking Stick Golf Club.

He was surprised to see this at the ball park:
free suntan dispensers!
He took a photo of the beautiful ball park with his iphone:

While Eldy was at the ballpark, I was down at the clubhouse, checking out some of the classes and facilities....I worked in the sewing room for awhile, rode my bike around the park, (for a total of six miles today) and then headed back to the rig for a siesta!

There are so many fun things to do here, I keep forgetting what days and times the classes are...Free pickleball lessons are from 4:00-6:00 on Mondays and Fridays, and photography club is Mondays from 10:00 to 1:00.  There's woodshop, stained glass, pottery, silversmithing, cards going on all times of the day and night, and many more activities....I missed the dog show today. We don't have a dog, but I thought it would be fun to see how many entries there were in the dog show...missed it! See you next time somewhere in Palm Creek!

  1. That sounds like a great park. We are in what I call a dead park. No clubhouse, no games, no classes, jut a spot on the grass to park. I commited to a month, but wish I hadn't, but there is lots to see in the area. We will just bite the bullet and stay for the month. Stay safe.
