It's Another Hot One!

Sevierville, TN High: 100 Low:71

It's already July...where do the days go? It just seems like yesterday that I got a call from my daughter, Kerry, that I was going to be a grandma. Nine months came and went, my month's visit with her came and went, and here we are, with Eldy's grandkids for a visit and it's July! We are at The Dell in Sevierille, TN and it's quite the place! A lot over budget, but we were thinking that it's going to be a great place to entertain the grandkids right there in the park, but it's not quite what we expected. VERY classy, very beautiful but not much for kids to do inside the park. It's VERY beautiful, though...
boardwalk and gardens just behind our site
Yesterday's high of 107 was miserable...but it's hot everywhere. We spend some time at the pool yesterday here at The Dell, and today we did more of the same. The Dell is a beautiful but small RV section, you can't really call it a park. It seems it's primary purpose is to direct traffic to more traditional housing in the Hidden Mountain resort area, we think. The Dell is a small part of a gated community at Hidden Mountain East. There are eighteen sites, each site has a 50 X 80' site, fully landscaped with custom stamped concrete pad, 50 amp service, electric, water, and sewer, satellite TV, high speed internet access and daily garbage pickup. Our site is VERY nice. It has a coach house on it, but we're not allowed to use it as a renter.

Our site even has a a little garden gate leading out to the boardwalks, gazebos and ponds.

While staying at the Dell, you have access to all the Hidden Mountain East amenities--walking trails, picnic pavilions, swimming pools and fishing ponds. The fitness room wasn't much to speak of, but hey, it's nice they have one! The park is within walking distance of a place called the Apple Barn and Cider Mill, shops, and Applewood Restaurant. It's less than 2 miles to the Tanger Five Oaks Mall. There's trolley service from the Apple Barn to shops, attractions, and restaurants in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville. That might be a good thing as traffic here is TERRIBLE. There seems to be only one main drag to get anywhere and it's clogged night and day.

This is not a place where you would be able to ride a bike, the hills are VERY steep. The Dell is at the bottom of the complex's hills. To get to the pool, you HAVE to take the car or walk up a VERY steep incline to get to the top where the clubhouse is located along with the pools.  Great exercise, but not in 100+ degree heat! I'll take the car, thank you! The view of the Great Smokies at the top of the hill is awesome! We are planning to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park soon...hopefully, the temps will drop a bit so we can do that! See you later!

  2. Well la de da, aren't we hitting the high spots?
Actually, sarcasm aside, (*sorry*) it does look like a really nice place. That stamped concrete is gobs of work too.

Once upon a time we took the RV down to "Six Flags Darien Lake" outside of Buffalo. Actually I think it's technically Genesee, but whatever.
Great combination. It was an RV park, and you could choose shaded or open sites and all that good stuff, and the amusement park end of things was close enough such that the kids could go off and get their brains rattled to their hearts content.
Worked for my wife and I, since we had no desire to go on any rides and could hang out at the motorhome, or go and watch the kids go on the rides with their parents. Fabulous.

Just a suggestion. Your mileage may vary.

  3. I know that road much too well ... it's the one that took us three hours to travel three miles to get to the turn off we needed to take to drive a few short miles to Townsend. They really need to find another solution. Hearing how hot it is -- even if temps that high are not the norm -- I'm that much more grateful to have gone to the Smokies in April.

  4. So sorry to hear about the heat. That's worse than here although the humidity nearly killed me on my run this morning.

Would the tram take you anywhere near a water park? Seems like something that area would have along with all kinds of other gimmicky spend your money places. I'd think the kids could amuse themselves and you two as well in the water although given the heat it might be swamped with people.

  5. I'm working on finding a different way to get to Cade's Cove so I don't come anywhere near you. :) I hate that traffic.
