How about a visit to Park Seed Company right here in Greenwood, SC where we are staying? Sparky fell in love with all the flowers blooming in the brochure, and thought, gee, this would be a great place to visit to get her flower fix! And besides, it's FREE to visit the grounds...
Off she went today, Eldo decided to pass, and it's probably a good thing he did. Not a lot of stuff going on, you can't take an official tour of the test gardens until Flower Day, which is some time in June. It's spring cleanup, so the place doesn't look as terrific as it does in high season--walkways are covered with mulch and dirt and leaves, the weeds are taking over the different garden plots, workers have junk laying all over the place....
organic fertilizer? |
Themed plots like the Butterfly Garden plot, the Tropical garden plot....the Rose Garden plot....But they needed tending, lots of weeds everywhere....In some ways, Park Seed just doesn't look so hot right now...but they sure had some pretty flowers in the greenhouse and growing in a few places outside. Unusual ornamental grasses....
Everything was labeled so if you liked it, you could make a note of it to purchase it through their catalogs. Funny name for this one...
BUT---Sparky got her flower fix....Loved these chocolate covered cherry coleus!
Some beautiful clematis....
It was a pretty place to walk around, but not as pretty as a botanical garden. It had the atmosphere of someone's backyard under construction, Nature's construction with a little manmade help....Come back and see it in June! Something to do while in Greenwood...
A really big pot in the container garden, that's my sandal down there for size |
Now that's a HUGE pot. I can't even imagine how much that weighs. Sounds like a great day where you got to do your thing and Eldy did too. Now if you'd just topped it off with a visit to a great ice cream shop :-))))
