Baby on Board

He's here! And he took his sweet time getting here! At 10:45 last night, Kerry called wondering if she should go to the hospital. She described what was going on, and Mama Sparks said, "Well, if your doctor said to go at this point, then you probably should go! Call me if the hospital admits you so I know whether to come or not to the hospital,"  thinking they would probably send her home. She just wasn't having regular enough contractions but there were some other things going on.

Just about to fall asleep and we get the second phone call at 12:45...Yes, she's admitted...Mom, can you come at 5:00 in the morning so we can get the dog to doggy day care? Yep, we can do that...Set the alarm, and after about three hours of sleep total, we headed off the the hospital....Mama Sparky helped Kerry with her breathing. It was a very special experience for me to be able to be there with Kerry and to help her. She lives far from me at least she did before we hit the road and it's been not always easy to get where she is. Since we've been fulltiming, we're able to get together a little more....
Awwww-w-w-w-w
Twelve hours later, and some complications which thankfully turned out ok for mommy and son, my first grandchild, was born. It's a boy! And Kerry would like his name to be private for now....He was BIG! eight pounds, nine ounces, twenty-two inches long. Mother and son and daddy-to-be are doing great! Woo-hoo!

The memories, the feelings, the joy, the tears as we went through the process together--it was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. (Sparky had to go visit the nursery a BUNCH of times looking at her new grandson. She was SO EXCITED! explains E.) And looking at that new little grandson, the tiny toes, the tiny hands, it's a miracle to see and hold that tiny bundle and know the beat of life goes on......our little family has grown....And Sparky is going to be Grammy...got to get my head wrapped around that one! Kerry's big sister is really excited, too, to be an aunt. Lots of phone calls, lots of excitement today....whew!

Now that the baby is here, the blog MIGHT take a backseat for a little while, it might even go on vacation, a BABY vacation! But we'll stay in touch and let you know if we take a break, and a heads up when we are coming back. Thanks for following us on our journey which is pretty full of joy and thanks at the moment!

  1. Congratulations. There is NOTHING like having grandchildren. I can still remember the excitement I felt over 23 years ago when my first grandson was born. What a thrill. Enjoy every moment as they pass all too quickly.

  2. Couldn't help but get tears in my eyes in reading the story of your grandson's birth--what a special, special day and how perfect that this lifestyle gives you the freedom to be there for Kerry and the baby.
